Apple Sharlotka
This light, fruit-forward Russian dessert is one of the simplest (and most delicious) cakes we know.
Ingredients
- 4 granny smith apples — peeled, cored, quartered, and thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- pinch of kosher salt
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon pure almond extract
- confectioners’ sugar, for dusting
